Amnesty Reintegrates 220 Ex-Militants in Aquaculture (fish farming). The Presidential Amnesty Programme is reintegrating 220 ex-militants in Aquaculture (fish farming) in Patani, Delta State. The beneficiaries are to be empowered within the next one week to enable them sustainably integrate back into society. The beneficiaries, in a group of twenty two each are being given a total of 420, 000 fingerlings to start this great and sustainable aquaculture project. The Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brigadier General Paul Boroh who disclosed this in Abuja at the weekend said “ This great, interesting and exciting project is in line with the objectives of the Federal Government to diversify the economy and make the country food self- sufficient. The aquaculture fish farm project in Patani, is designed to meet part of the protein needs of the people in the Niger Delta and is itself a pilot project. In Patani alone, we have a total of 400 fish ponds and we hope to create 1,600 direct jobs. We also plan to create another 800 jobs in the logistics and processing of the farm produce” He said the project will be replicated in other Niger Delta States ,adding that: “It will attract cash flow through the wholesale and retail process, provide jobs and assist in food security. In Odi, Bayelsa State, the Presidential Amnesty Office is engaged in training 100 ex-militants in high-yield farming at the Bio-Resource Centre. This is in collaboration with the National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA), under the Ministry of Science and Technology.
