The International Institute of Tourism and Hospitality,
Yenagoa, Bayelsa State has reacted in very strong and unequivocal terms the
brazen and unwarranted attacks against the good work and achievements of
Brigadier-General Paul Boroh (Rtd) the
Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta
and Coordinator of the Niger Delta Presidential Amnesty Programme, by a
phantom group named Niger Deltans for Accountability and Good Governance
(NDAGG).
The Rector of the Institute, Samuel Timi Johnson, in a
statement issued in Yenagoa, noted that the Institute as one of the proud
partners and major players in the Amnesty Project affirms from the template of
service set by Brig-Gen. Boroh on assumption of office that Due Process and a
competitive Bidding Process are followed in the award of contracts or
engagements of Service Vendors, by the Amnesty Office.
One major innovation adopted by the Amnesty office is the
important decision by Gen Boroh to personally lead a delegation of top
officials, from Abuja, to carry out rigorous verification of claims by
prospective partners and vendors, to their existing facilities, as claimed in
their proposal(s) including that presented by the Institute, before approval
was given for the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and commencement of
training/empowerment project. This was the experience of this Institute before
the approval of the first batch of one thousand beneficiaries to be trained in
2017.
It is on record that those trained by the Institute and who
graduated two weeks ago, were on Tuesday June 20, 2017, empowered with starter
packs in Catering and Fashion designing, worth several millions of naira,
courtesy of General Boroh’s reforms in line with the mandate of the
Presidential Amnesty Programme for full integration of Delegates that
successfully completed the training.
Therefore, the fifth columnists plot to protest against
General Boroh can be likened to mere
traducers that fed fat in the past
through award of phony contracts and diversion of funds which the
leadership of General Boroh has stamped
out.
The Institute believes that the firmness of Boroh is
beginning to pay-off as it has checked the crass opportunism, rot, indiscipline
and inexorable mess which had characterized the programme. We therefore call on
President Muhammadu Buhari to ignore the antics of mischief makers and enemies
of the Niger Delta who are again colluding to fan the embers of violence and
demean the good intentions of General Boroh and his team. The performance of General
Boroh is an eloquent testimony of a true son of the Niger Delta who is
currently waging war to break the jinx and sustain the existing peace,
development and progress of the Region.
We also call on all stakeholders to support General Boroh in
his efforts to reposition the Niger Delta and set it on the path of recovery,
peace and development.
