The Federal Government has through various offices stepped
up efforts to deepen the bond between the Niger Delta people and the President Buhari
administration. The aim of this critical partnership is to create a wide and
open road to sustainable peace and development of the Niger Delta. Ultimately
help in achieving Government’s vision of transforming the oil communities into
hubs for diverse socio-economic activities which will in turn create mass
employment for youth in the region and Nigeria at large. The Government’s
policy is further buttressed as demonstrated by the periodic visit of the Vice
President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo to the Niger Delta region. These visits have
provided an avenue for government to interact and reach out to the people,
listen to their complaints and take steps to address their concerns. The
Presidential Amnesty Office believes these visits are greatly responsible for
the peace being witnessed today in the Niger Delta area and the halt in
vandalism of oil facilities. PAP hopes to build on this win-win
foundation to build human capacity in the Niger Delta, which will fast-track
infrastructural development in the region.
