
Nigeria is today rated as
one of the Countries with an efficient and effective DDR Programme. The successes of the Programme are the outcomes of
the resolve by Stakeholders to collaboratively build common grounds in the face
of daunting challenges. The achievements of thousands of successful Amnesty
delegates have indeed highlighted the core essence of the Presidential Amnesty
Programme, PAP. Today, the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) has beneficiaries
studying in 16 Countries around the world and in 15 local Universities (both
Federal and Private). In the 2015-2016 academic year, 1,294 delegates were
deployed to various universities in the country. Some 681 student delegates
graduated within the year under review, 14 with First Class honors and 84 with
Second Class Upper. In fact, the Benson Idahosa University retained four
students from the programme who had First Class as lecturers.
On a wider scope, over fourteen thousand delegates have been trained in various entrepreneurship and vocational Skills with a total of 3,500 empowered with Start-up Packages to establish their own businesses. The Presidential Amnesty Programme has trained Internationally Certified Pilots, Air Traffic Controllers, Aircraft Maintenance Engineers, Medical Practitioners, Artisans, internationally accredited Chefs and Hospitality Managers, as well as Automobile Engineers, Electrical Technicians, Peace Building and Change Agents in the Region. The Amnesty Programme is indeed working and it’s on course, thus reflecting the decision of the His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari to extend the programme beyond its initial deadline of December 2015.
