AMNESTY BOSS TASKS IJAW PROFESSIONALS ON CONSTRUCTIVE ENGAGEMENT;…INVITES IPA TO MAKE INPUT IN NIGER DELTA STRATEGIC WORKPLAN
Delivering a Keynote address on the theme; “Social Inclusion, A Strategy for Peaceful Co-existence” at a one day seminar organized by the IPA, held at the Muson Center, Marina Lagos on Sunday, General Boroh reiterated the need for inclusiveness in the development of theNiger Delta region, informing that the focus of the Presidential Amnesty Programme is to develop the capacity of the youths to be able to participate effectively in the socio-economic development of the region.
Gen. Boroh, who nominated the moderator of the seminar, Dr. Austin Tam George to be part of his team to make inputs into the draft strategic work plan for the region, emphasized the role of the organized private sector in the development of the region, noting that sustainable development requires constructive inputs from both the public and private sectors, including the civil society, just as he stressed the need for partnership in building human and institutional capacities inthe Niger Delta region.
The IPA President further reiterated that the Ijaw nation and its people have continued to find their place and status in the framework of Nigeria and this has led to deadly clashes and distrust in the national and ethnic polity, which continues to shape Nigeria, pointing out that “the struggle for inclusion both socially, economically and politically, continues to be a contentious issue as the struggles of old continue to hunt the Niger Delta and the Ijaw nation as a whole”. Also contributing to the discussion, the moderator of the programme and former commissioner for information in Rivers state, Dr. Austin Tam George, stressed the need for the development of formidable social network among the Ijaws as a way of increasing social capital, adding that the use and availability of internet through development of smart communities in parts of the region, will enhance social inclusion among the Ijaws.

Highpoint of the event was the presentation of IPA plague to Gen. Boroh and others.
